Carp

Carp are native to Alaska and were introduced to the lower US in the late 1800s as a food source and to take fishing pressure off native fish. They eventually became less popular as a food source, but are gaining popularity as a sport fish in some areas.

Carp like to hang out in deep pools and eddies to avoid currents, but like to be shallow enough not to have to move far for food. If you hook something heavy that doesn\’t want to move, you might have a carp. If you just happen to hook one, hold on and enjoy the challenge of bringing this big guy in!

If carp fishing is your game, we run carp fishing trips on the uppermost reaches of the Missouri and in the shallow bays of local lakes.
